Getting started

What is XLibrary?

XLibrary is a free desktop game library for Windows, macOS, Linux and Steam Deck. It keeps any PC game in one place, from Steam, GOG, itch.io or your own files, and it is especially good with visual novels and adult (18+) indie games: it finds, downloads, installs, launches and safely updates them from F95zone, LewdCorner, DLSite, VNDB, Getchu and other sites.

Is XLibrary free?

Yes. XLibrary is free to download and use on every platform. There are no subscriptions.

How can I support XLibrary?

Subscribe to CharTale or recommend it to your friends. CharTale is an AI roleplay platform by the same developer, and subscriptions to it support the development of XLibrary. Reporting bugs and ideas on Discord helps too.

Do I need an account?

No. XLibrary has no accounts of its own. Google sign-in is only for optional cloud sync. Some sites use your own accounts: F95zone for download links, RPDL for torrents, and an itch.io API key for games you own on itch.io.

Which sites does XLibrary work with?

Twelve: F95zone, LewdCorner, Steam, itch.io, DLSite, VNDB, GOG, Getchu, Ryuugames, Anime-Sharing, LewdGames and FapForFun. Downloads work with Pixeldrain, MEGA, MediaFire, BuzzHeavier, RPDL torrents and JDownloader.

Does XLibrary itself contain adult content?

No. XLibrary is a library manager with a neutral name and icon. You decide what covers you see, and links open in the browser you pick in Settings, so adult browsing can stay in its own browser. You must be 18 or older to use content from the supported sites.

How do I get started?

Install XLibrary, choose a games folder and add your first game by its page link or with the browser extension. If you used another manager, import your library first.

Downloads

Which file hosts does XLibrary download from?

Pixeldrain, MEGA, MediaFire and BuzzHeavier directly, RPDL torrents inside the app, and other hosts through JDownloader or your browser.

What if an archive needs a password?

XLibrary takes the password from the game's thread. If it is missing or wrong, the download waits for you to enter it, even after a restart.

What happens if my connection drops?

The download waits and continues when the connection is back. “Retry” continues from what is already downloaded, and a full disk pauses the download until space is freed.

Where are games installed?

In the games folder you choose. Archives are extracted next to it and moved into place in one step, so an interrupted install never leaves a half-copied game.

Do I need an RPDL account?

Only for RPDL torrents. Your RPDL sign-in is kept in the system keychain and renews itself, so you enter the password again only if you change it.

Updates

Will updating a game delete my saves?

No. XLibrary backs up your saves before every update and installs the new version next to the old one. You can restore saves or go back to the previous version from the launch menu.

How does XLibrary know a game has a new version?

It checks your library against the XLibrary catalog, which tracks new versions on the source sites. You get a notification as soon as a new version is out.

Do updates download the whole game again?

Not for torrents. Updating a torrent download reuses the unchanged files and downloads only what changed, often megabytes instead of gigabytes.

Does XLibrary update itself?

Yes. XLibrary checks for its own new versions and updates in place. On macOS the update is downloaded and verified in the background and finished with a quick restart.

Can an app update erase my library?

No. XLibrary takes a backup before every library upgrade, and libraries that came up empty after updating from 1.x repair themselves since version 2.2.1.

Privacy and safety

Is XLibrary open source?

No. The app is closed source. The Plugin SDK is MIT-licensed, and every request the app sends to its server is visible and verifiable in Settings → Privacy.

What does XLibrary send to its server?

Four things: your search text, the IDs of games in your library, an anonymous installation key and the app build number. Library contents, file paths, accounts and browsing history are never sent.

What does the server store?

Only the public installation key, when it was created and when it last made a request. Search texts and the games you ask about are not stored.

Is XLibrary safe to install?

Every release is built on Windows, macOS and Linux CI and tested before it's published, and the download page lists a SHA-512 checksum for each file so you can check what you got. Windows SmartScreen and macOS may warn about a new app. The download page explains what to do.

Can I keep adult browsing out of my main browser?

Yes. Choose a browser for links in Settings. F95zone links and Google sign-in open there.

Platforms

Does it work on Mac and Steam Deck?

Yes, on Macs with Apple Silicon. Windows-only games run through CrossOver, which XLibrary can set up for you. There is no build for Intel Macs. Steam Deck has a dedicated Gaming Mode shell, currently in Alpha.

Is there a portable version for Windows?

Yes. Besides the installer there is a portable build that runs from any folder.

Which Linux packages are there?

Three, for 64-bit x86 Linux: AppImage, .deb and .tar.gz.

Can XLibrary run Windows games on Linux and Mac?

Yes. On Linux it uses Wine, Proton, UMU or Bottles, and on a Mac CrossOver or Whisky. Launch settings carry over when a game updates.

Can I use a controller?

Yes. The whole interface works with a controller on every platform, with rumble when focus moves.

Which languages does XLibrary support?

Nine: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Data and migration

Can I import my F95Checker library?

Yes. XLibrary imports F95Checker databases including game paths, and also Game-List, EmulationStation, Batocera and ES-DE libraries.

Can I import from Game-List?

Yes. XLibrary imports Game-List (.ini) folders, with a preview before anything changes.

Can I import from Atlas?

No. There is no Atlas import. Add your games by their page links, one by one or with Bulk Add.

Can I export my library?

Yes. XLibrary exports your library to plain JSON, which it can import again.

How do backups work?

Backups keep library data and device setup as separate restore points, so you can restore either one on its own. Google Drive backup and sync are encrypted.

Plugins

What can plugins add?

Game catalogs and browser sources, import and export formats, library filters, custom game fields and actions, focused UI tools and background integrations.

Is there a plugin catalog?

Not yet. Plugins are local .xlplugin files. Share them on Discord and install them from Plugins → Install plugin.

Are plugins safe?

Plugins are opt-in. A .xlplugin package is validated before installation and runs in isolation with the permissions you approve.
